• A Rated Load standard for fixed height chairs (AFRDI 151) has been released.
  • AS/NZS 3813:2016 Plastic monobloc chairs has been released. This replaces the 1998 version.
  • AS/NZS 4386:2018 Cabinetry in the built-in environment has been released. This replaces the domestic kitchen standard of 1996.
  • AS/NZS 2172:2013 Cots for household use has been released. The drop side, drop side mechanism and side bar strength and durability tests have been modified (made more severe).
  • AS/NZS 8811.1:2013 Methods of testing infant products – sleep surfaces – test for firmness has been released. This is a new standard, which is referenced as a requirement in the new release of the cot standard (AS/NZS 2172:2013) mentioned above.
  • AFRDI 152 Rated Load for bunk beds for people up to 135 kg was released in 2019. The target market is short term rental accommodation, barracks, schools, camp grounds, ski clubs, outdoor education facilities and domestic dwellings where bunk beds are used by larger children or adults.
  • A proposal to review AS/NZS 4935 Domestic furniture – freestanding chests of drawers, wardrobes and bookshelves/bookcases – determination of stability is under preparation. A Standards Australia subcommittee has been formed. The committee has decided to hold off the review until the ACCC have commented on the submissions received on their consultation paper on toppling furniture. The stability of furniture items has received significant media coverage in recent years.
