AS/NZS 4688 (levels 4, 5 and 6)
Most certified fixed height chairs in Australia and NZ are tested to the requirements of AS/NZS 4688:2000 Furniture - Fixed height chairs. This standard states that it is not for more than occasional use by people over 100 kg.
AFRDI Level 6 certified fixed height chairs are described as suitable for heavy commercial use.
AFRDI Level 5 certified fixed height chairs are described as suitable for general commercial use.
AFRDI Level 4 certified fixed height chairs are described as suitable for heavy domestic/light commercial use.
AFRDI 151 – Rated Load
This standard is designed to cater for chairs intended to be used by people heavier than 100 kg.

Certification requirements at the bariatric level of the Rated Load standard (AFRDI 151) include limited dimensional/ergonomic criteria. All Rated Load options apply equal or greater loads than AFRDI level 6.
